The Schwarzenberg mining region is the westernmost district in the Saxon part of the Erzgebirge / Krušnohoří Mining Region. It is the foremost tin- and iron-mining area in the western Erzgebirge. The UNESCO World Heritage nomination includes the placer and sink-hole fields of the Eibenstock tin-mining landscape, as well as the Rother Berg iron-mining landscape and the Erlahammer manor house at Schwarzenberg. Schwarzenberg Castle is an associated object, complementing the mining heritage of the region. It represents the sovereign and manorial mining administration of the western Erzgebirge, and indicates close ties with the Bohemian mining regions of Horní Blatná and Boží Dar.
