Associated component parts of the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region

The Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region is a geographical, historical and cultural entity that has been shaped by a long history of mining and remains closely connected with this legacy even today. For centuries, mining and metallurgy formed the character and appearance of this unique cultural landscape with a variety of mining and technical artefacts. However, mining did not have an influence only on the sites and surrounding landscapes directly connected with the industry, but wider still: on the region’s architecture, art, culture and science, as well as its economy, politics and society. This enduring influence is clearly evident in the variety of original artefacts, landscape features, and cultural and economic attributes that have been preserved, and can also be felt in the region’s intangible values.

As part of the World Heritage nomination, the component parts were selected and defined based on the region’s outstanding universal value and unique attributes in an international context. In order to establish the full breadth of the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region Cultural Landscape’s tangible and intangible values ‒ thereby helping to convey a comprehensive picture of the region’s historical mining heritage ‒ additional mining artefacts were taken into account as “associated objects”.

“Associated objects” do not belong to the nominated properties of the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region.
