As with the planning of the manmade ditch of Obersaida and increasingly with its implementation in 1606 and 1607 the construction of several ponds nearby Obersaida were considered. Due to enormous financial expenses for the construction of the manmade ditch with leat, the construction of the ponds had been forgone. In the context of difficulties with the construction of the Großhartmannsdorfer pond the plans were revived at the beginning of the 18th century when electorate Friedrich August I [*1670 †1733] ordered the construction of the pond in 1727.  The Obersaidaer pond came to completion in the following year. Its dam crest features a length of 214 m and a width of 6.25 m.
