Freiberg Active Mining Water Management System (RWA) ‒ Mittlerer Großhartmannsdorfer Reservoir

Due to continous drought during the 1710 and 1720s mining suffered from a lack of motive water. To counteract this situation the construction of an additional water storage capacity was ordered by the sovereign. The laying out of the middling Großhartmannsdorfer pond dates back to an electorate order on the chief mining office by Friedrich August I on fourth of march 1712. After cease of mining at the beginning of the 20th century the pond served for the operation of the district electricity system and water supply in the 1930s. Today it is used for the storage of raw water, service water supply, fish farming and as recreational water body. The dam crest measures 632 m in length and 17.2 m in width.
