In the Hartmannsdorf Forest, situated in the Hartmannsdorf/Langweißenbach/Kirchberg area, in the Hartmannsdorf Forest, lies one of the oldest and best-preserved mining landscapes in the Erzgebirge: the Hoher Forst.

Extraction of silver and later copper ore began here as far back as 1306. A mining town emerged but was swiftly abandoned. Evidence of mining activity in Hoher Forst continues into the 20th century.

With its numerous relics in the form of heaps and sink-holes, the archaeological mining monument today bears witness to the eventful history of this site.
