Both wheel chambers provide an outstanding example of mine masonry for underground machine rooms during 19th century. In accurate design with a slightly elliptical outline the chambers hosted the pump wheel and the reverse wheel with a diameter of 11.9 m. The position of the rope-buckets which had been attached to the gear wheel shaft can be observed on the masonry. The hoisting rope was lead to the cable sheaves in the attic storey and from there down into the shaft. While the original pump wheel had a width of 0.8 m the reverse wheel was 1.6 m wide. The pump wheel powered a rod system with a connected mine water pumping system inside the shaft. The pump bell atop the roof of the hoisting house signalized regular operation of the water pumping system.
