By extending the artificial trench system as far as Dörnthal and the hereby induced water supply from this area a dam crest elevation of 2.25 m for the upper Großhartmannsdorfer pond was required in the years between 1778 and 1782. The elevation provided more water storage capacity. The dam was fitted with additional drainage pipes in 1897. At the beginning of the 20th century heavy rainfalls caused two landslides at the windward bank of the dam. Repair work included the installation of load arches made of dry masonry. Further a 1.3 m protective wall was constructed over a length of 250 m. The dam crest measures 531 m in length and 9.7 m in width.
