Since 2003, initiatives on both sides of the German-Czech border have been working closely together as part of the World Heritage project. By 2012, the nominated objects had been chosen as part of cross-border EU projects.
A mixed working group formed of experts from both Saxony and the Czech Republic was created in spring 2012 to prepare the application for World Heritage status. On a ministerial level, there is a Saxon-Czech management group with representatives from both ministries and from subordinate authorities which makes decisions about the overall approach.
This positive collaboration will be continued in the management of the future "Mining Cultural Landscape Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří" World Heritage site. The following structure is envisaged for this:
