The Wolfgang Maßen mine was the southernmost of the large mines in the Schneeberg ore field, and one of the most important cobalt mines in Saxon ore mining in the 19th century. All that remains of the mining complex is the stamp mill, which was constructed between 1816 and 1818 and has a subsurface stamp wheelhouse, the half-timbered administration and assembly building, the foreman’s house and the mid-19th century mine forge. In addition to the flat-topped heap from the main shaft, there are several smaller heaps that date back to the 16th century.
