The Daniel Fundgrube mine is first mentioned in records from around 1500. In the mid-17th century, major cobalt deposits were discovered, making the mine of the most important in the Schneeberg ore field; it supplied more than a third of the locally mined cobalt ore. Of the mine’s surface buildings, only the administration and assembly building, built in 1730, and the mine forge, from 1839/40, are still standing. The administration and assembly building now houses the headquarters of the Schneeberg/Erzgebirge Mining Association.
