In the Hartmannsdorf Forest, situated in the Hartmannsdorf/Langweißenbach/Kirchberg area, lies one of the oldest and best-preserved mining landscapes in the Erzgebirge: the Hoher Forst. Extraction of silver and later copper ore began here as far back as 1306. A mining town emerged but was swiftly abandoned. Evidence of mining activity in Hoher Forst continues into the 20th century. With its numerous relics in the form of heaps and sinkholes, the archaeological mining monument today bears witness to the eventful history of this site.
