The heap of the Hörnig shaft reflects one of the large pit heaps in the region. Up to 20 m in height, its ground area shapes an oval (200 by 65 m) stretching in northeastern direction. The uncovered masonry of the shaft superstructure is located 25 m west from the gable of the administration and assembly building. Reaching as deep as 240 m, the shaft itself has been safeguarded and backfilled at the upper section. The mouth of the motive-water leat is located 25 m southwest from the western gable of the administration and assembly building. Constructed in rubble stone masonry, the keystone of the leat mouth dates back to 1845. It provided motive-water for the water-powered machines that were installed inside the shaft. The course of the passing leat corresponds with the original course of the manmade ditch, which was realized by the Kohlhäusler Kunstgraben (manmade ditch).
