Reviving mining activities in the Freiberg mining district towards the end of the 18th century and the resulting demand for motive water required the construction of the Dittmannsdorfer pond along with the Dittmannsdorfer manmade ditch and its leat. Simultaneously, a pond building and the protective barriers were erected. The dam crest measures 282 m in length and 11.3 m in width. The pond is currently fed mainly by the Ullersdorfer creek and is used for flood protection and fish farming. A water power station for power generation was installed at the pond outlet and went into operation in 1999.
