To the east of Pöhlberg is a mining district that was first documented in the 15th century. The heaps from numerous small adits and the mine workings preserved underground are testament to the extensive mining of silver-bearing copper ore here. Once liquation was introduced, it became possible to extract silver from the copper ore mined here. The ore was processed at the Grünthal Liquation Works As a result, mines such as Heilige Dreifaltigkeit and St. Briccius regained their importance. The underground 15th- to 18th-century mine complexes and the remains of original 18th-century pumping equipment are unique to the Erzgebirge mining industry.
