The transboundary serial property Mining Cultural Landscape Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří is located in the Erzgebirge, a Central European low mountain region in the south-east of the Federal Republic of Germany and the north-west of the Czech Republic. This geographical, historical and cultural entity has emerged from a long, shared history and remains united today.

The World Heritage Convent has sponsored the World Heritage nomination since 2011. Members include three districts and 35 towns and communities in the region.
This association was one of the main initiators of the World Heritage application and has provided both material and creative support since its foundation in 2003.
In advance of its nomination for UNESCO World Heritage status, the Erzgebirge region is hosting a number of events, including cross-border activities, to give guests an insight into the history of mining and the hard work carried out by the miners themselves.
"We owe it all to mining" is a phrase that applies to almost all business sectors in the Erzgebirge, as it was through this industry that the region developed into an internationally significant business location.
Although the Mining Cultural Landscape Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří has not yet completed its journey to UNESCO World Heritage status, it already offers a wide range of interesting and appealing sites for excursions where people can learn about all that has grown out of the mining industry.
Mining professionals, and those who hope to practise this profession one day, can get an insight into the Mining history of the Erzgebirge region and the processes and techniques developed here. The language of the miners can be explored in the mining lexicon.
